DENTURES
Dentures are an effective way to replace teeth that have been lost or damaged. Dentures are custom-made to fit the individual’s mouth and can be removed and replaced just like natural teeth. Dentures are most commonly used to help people who have lost teeth due to age, disease, or injury. Dentures can provide many benefits, including improved chewing and speech abilities.

Will Dentures change my appearance?
If you are considering getting dentures, you may be wondering if they will change your appearance. While dentures can alter the way you look, it is usually a very significant change. Many people who wear dentures say that they feel more confident with their new smile. They may also realize that they can eat more comfortably which can boost confidence and self-esteem. If you are in recovery from a loss of teeth, or if you just want to improve your smile, you should consult Dr. Odufalu. She can assess the health of your teeth and help you decide if you are a candidate for dentures.
TYPES OF COMPLETE DENTURES
Dentures come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and materials to suit your specific needs. Some are made from natural materials like bone or plastic, while others are made from man-made materials. Dentures can be attached to the upper or lower teeth, or they can be held in place with a band. They can also be fitted with removable bases that allow users to eat soft foods and drinks.
- Full Convention Denture: This denture is made to be removable and can be placed in your mouth after the remaining teeth have been removed and the tissues have healed, which may take several months.
- Immediate Dentures: This denture can be inserted on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. During a preliminary visit, Dr. Odufalu will take measurements and make models of your jaw. The denture may need to be modified after your jaw has healed.
- Overdentures: It is possible to save some of your teeth when getting a denture, which can help preserve your jawbone and provide support for the denture. Overdentures fit over a small number of remaining natural teeth, which have been prepared by Dr.Odufalu. Implants can also serve this purpose.

WHAT IS A PARTIAL DENTURE?
A removable partial denture is a solution that can replace a missing tooth or teeth. It consists of replacement teeth attached to both pink plastics and metal, which are known as frameworks, which are then typically connected to another denture in the mouth by a swivel clasp.
Partial dentures are used to replace one or more missing teeth when there are still natural teeth remaining in the upper or lower jaw. A fixed bridge consists of artificial teeth that are attached to adjacent crowns, which are placed on natural teeth.
DENTURE CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Even though your denture teeth are artificial, it is still important to clean them on a regular basis. Maintaining your oral hygiene requires more than just brushing your dentures, however. Other steps are necessary to keep them in good condition.
Dentures can collect plaque and food debris in the same way as natural teeth. Dental plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that can form on dentures and teeth after eating and drinking. Regular cleaning is necessary to remove plaque and keep your dentures in good condition.
It is important to have regular denture cleanings to maintain your oral health. In order to keep your dentures clean, follow these instructions:
Step 1:
Before removing your dentures, place a soft, folded towel on your bathroom counter. If you accidentally drop your dentures, the softness of the towel provides a cushion to protect them.
Step 2:
Remove your dentures and soak them in a glass of warm water.
Step 3:
Gently brush your dentures with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove bacteria, food particles and plaque. Be sure to clean all areas of the denture surface. You can use a denture cleanser or mild soap and warm water for best results.
Step 4:
If you are going to bed, soak your dentures in lukewarm water or a denture-soaking solution overnight. This will help keep them moist and prevent them from drying out and losing their shape. In the morning, rinse your dentures before wearing them.
Warning. Please don’t put your dentures in hot water. Doing this could ruin their shape and elasticity.
